Welcome to the HEPCanada website!

HEPCanada is a national independent advocacy association that was established in 2014. The association’s

primary mandate is to educate and assist Canadians who are infected with the hepatitis C (Hep C) virus.

In particular, we strive to speak for the BOOMER population, our peer group, in Canada and worldwide.

We believe that testing for Hep C, without follow-up treatment, can and likely will cause extreme torment

for those who can't afford treatment. Particularly for those who are asymptomatic and have been living

with Hep C for years, if not decades, without the anguish and stigma that testing positive will evoke.

No testing without treatment

If you test - you must treat

We are encouraged that provincial governments are now providing immediate and universal access to treatment, for those who test positive

for Hep C. We believe that there should be  expanded diagnostic testing for all Canadians born between 1945 - 1975. In particular for those

who have used intravenous drugs (ever), have been tattooed, had a blood transfusion or were in hospital undergoing any type of invasive

procedure before 1985.

Government funded treatment now provides 100% coverage for most Health Canada approved hepatitis C direct-acting antivirals (DAAs).

Treatment is initiated regardless of stage of disease, co-morbidities or viral load. These are most welcome developments. We applaud the

provincial health ministries and the drug manufacturers of DAAs who have negotiated these manageable treatment costs.
